On October 22 and 23, the Dominion Zones were held in Gravenhurst, Ontario. Brampton was represented at the Dominion Insurance play downs by Debbie Gates, Michelle Laidlaw, Renie Wilson and Tammy King in the ladies event, and Dayna Duerelle, Jim Day, Evan DeViller and Doug Fraser in the men’s event. Both teams are pictured below.

The men’s team played their first game Friday and the ladies played their first game Saturday morning. The men lost their first game and then won all remaining games to proceed to the provincials. The ladies won all their games, 4-0 to proceed to the provincials.
Provincials were held the following weekend, October 29, & 30 at the Acton Curling Club and the Milton Curling Club. The ladies lost their first game on Friday and then went on to win their next three games to qualify for the semi-final. In the semi-final game the ladies were tied playing the eighth end without hammer. With lots of rocks in play, they had one on the eight foot and then drew another around a guard that stopped on the back four. Their opposition from High Park followed them down, also drawing to the four foot to win the game. The High Park team went on to win the provincials and the right to represent Ontario at the National play downs.
The ladies would like to thank their fans – Cathy Fay in Gravenhurst and Mr. Laidlaw (Michelle’s father) in Acton and Milton – for their support. Several Brampton Club members also dropped by to cheer us on: Cindy Lew, Erik Fogt, Elaine Klassen and Janet Erwin.
